Only four more days until everything in the world ever is due!
J.D. Salinger died yesterday.

Marcie made this really cool ink drawing which she gave to me; after I begged for, like, five minutes. My favorite part is the medium, which is an old-timey library check-out card; and also that the date it was made had been stamped on it.
I just had this really strange dream-within-a-dream. So much happened and I am pretty sure I was only asleep for twenty minutes. Long story short: I met Michael Jordan. Sort of. He was playing for the Tarheels (ha ha) and made his signature dunk, like this one, but hurt himself pretty badly when he landed. This particular dream ended with someone saying "mhmmm....shouldn't be playing anymore, that Mike."
So weird-I cannot remember any instance lately where either Jordan or the Tarheels were involved in my life..
This blog post is going to be kind of weird.
Clothes: I have a love/hate relationship with clothes. In sum: I love clothes, have more than I should and half of my closet rarely sees daylight. If receipts did not expire within a month, I could return maybe a third of my wardrobe because I am s o s l o w a t w e a r i n g t h e t h i n g s I b u y. Most items eventually find their way on my body, exposed to the general public, but it can take time-years even. 2010: I will actually wear what I already own and purchase less. This somewhat daunting task will propose the perfect challenge for someone like myself. Still sans employment (cough cough..), I must refrain from lighting my cigars with Franklins and the careless spending on things which will only end up on a hanger for the next six months. Another challenge: remove the Singer sewing machine from its original packaging (some six years later..) and hem the twentysomething dresses just waitin' to be worn. The funny thing is some of my most favorite dresses ever are in the need-to-be-altered pile; I have never worn them. What is wrong with me!?
These have been ultimate goals of mine for sometime, but were quite intensified this week when my roommate moved out. She was all, "Oh hai, I am going to get an infection and not come back this semester,"* giving me an extra closet! It has only been a few days and already my Visa love children have spilled into the new found space, sort of clarifying what I need to wear/mend or give away. My friend Ivory has a free bin at her place so people can bring and take what they please. Sometimes I don't know my limit.. Once I refine my closets (this really should also include the one at my mom's), said bin will be overflowin'.
I periodically consider starting a personal style blog to showcase the zany things I wear on a day-to-day basis; maybe then my posts would be more regular and my direction more clear. Those thoughts dissipate just as fast as they come though, and I just fill my posts with silly hyperlinks instead. Also, I am kind of boring on a day-to-day basis and get a little intimidated by other style blogs. I admire those who put themselves together so well each day. Maybe one day, girlfacedana, maybe one day.
Oh sorry-I got sidetracked. Need Supply and Anthropologie are having sales! Where was I...
Adrian showed me this web comic; the cynicism really appeals to me. My favorite so far is Paul, a ghost who wears a sheet to emphasize that he has died. EXAMPLE! GO!

*My old roommate is from China. She is fine, her friend informed me it was just a matter of being unable to board a plane from contagions and already missing the first few weeks of class; thus, making returning for spring silly in the long run. No, it is not Avian Flu or SARS, please stop asking. I miss you, Mengran.

Some cards I made; are they for you?
...and a peekchta of us holding our peekchta. You can't tell, but there is a french bakery, armless mermaid, tornado, lightening bolt (or twelve) and Swiss Cake Roll-all on one sheet of poster board! And could those smiles couldn't look any more genuine?!
Thursdays, amirite??

I got some pretty neat books over the holidays.
I (Heart) Your Style is essentially like all other style tomes: filled with glossy photos of fashionable figureheads and a genuine foreword by someone who holds strong reigns in the fashion world (in this case, Diane Von Furstenburg). Similar to many other style books (especially this one), I had a firm grasp for about three days before I finally set it down, if only to clean my closet. Anything is worth its weight and time if it will get me to organize at least some aspect of my life. Holistically, I (Heart) Your Style is an aesthetically pleasing and fun book that makes you reevaluate not only how you dress, but why-it's very philosophical in many ways. So, yeah, if you like general dress-uppery, this book is for you.
One of my best friends of forever all time, John, gave me Indie Publishing:How to Design and Produce your Own Book. I have wanted this book for quite some time but never actually got around to purchasing the damn thing. While some things are just worth waiting for, I would definitely fork over money for this book. Indie Publishing is basically the bible of all independent publishing manifestos and guides one through every aspect of producing their own print media. Like 'zines. Which a venture I am currently involved
in. Yay for inspiration.
