There was a pretty dern cool house show last night. Obviously I had more fun enjoying the show and therefore did not take pictures during. I was reunited with some middle/high school best friends (Kendal and Jay!!!1) and Kay turned 21. So speaking of Jays, Jay Reatard died today! A couple friends and I saw him this past summer. My friend Patrick has a cool post about the ordeal-which it was. Long story short: it took three cars to get to the concert, we arrived just as Jay was starting, and he only played for about 30 minutes. I had fun, still.. Something really bizarre-o is that Kendal gave me a Jay Reatard sticker at last night's show.

chili mustaches

We went to the Aaron & Grant Chili and Beer Cook off Fundraiser Shindig Extravaganza (not actual title) for A&G's campaign. I definitely agree with Kay in that this was the most fun political event I have ever been to. Free stick-on mustaches and rides in Aaron's way-cool motorcycle sidecar (they totally could have advertised this feature as "free mustache rides" somehow?) only added to the party. The winner of the chili cook off gets to guest star on an upcoming episode of their show, Drinking in the Morning with Aaron and Grant. I think what I liked best was everyone's overall interest in the future of Columbia (Columbi-yeah!)-which is really refreshing. I am still quite young and only somewhat informed about local politics, but it takes many to run a city. Also, I have lived in this city since birth...and yeah, it sometimes sucks. Change is a most awesome thing.

I got some pretty neat books over the holidays.

I (Heart) Your Style is essentially like all other style tomes: filled with glossy photos of fashionable figureheads and a genuine foreword by someone who holds strong reigns in the fashion world (in this case, Diane Von Furstenburg). Similar to many other style books (especially this one), I had a firm grasp for about three days before I finally set it down, if only to clean my closet. Anything is worth its weight and time if it will get me to organize at least some aspect of my life. Holistically, I (Heart) Your Style is an aesthetically pleasing and fun book that makes you reevaluate not only how you dress, but why-it's very philosophical in many ways. So, yeah, if you like general dress-uppery, this book is for you.

One of my best friends of forever all time, John, gave me Indie Publishing:How to Design and Produce your Own Book. I have wanted this book for quite some time but never actually got around to purchasing the damn thing. While some things are just worth waiting for, I would definitely fork over money for this book. Indie Publishing is basically the bible of all independent publishing manifestos and guides one through every aspect of producing their own print media. Like 'zines. Which a venture I am currently involved in. Yay for inspiration.
